Top 2025 Living Room Trends: 4 Stylish Ideas to Try This Year part 2

From cozy textures to rich colors and standout seating, these are the looks designers are loving for 2025.

Here is the second part of our article about living rooms.

3. Darker Woods Make a Comeback

Perhaps the most noticeable shift in living room design this year is the renewed love for deeper wood tones. “People want finishes that feel like they’ve been there for years,” says Baker. While lighter woods suggest a modern or midcentury look, darker varieties offer a cozier, more traditional vibe.

Both Davis and Baker report rising interest in richer stains—walnut, ash, and warm, reddish cedar tones are popular. The trend reflects a broader move away from pale oak and toward woods that tell a story. For example, Lauren Santo Domingo’s Wyoming ski home features dark, hand-finished millwork throughout, bringing a sense of history and warmth to her modern space.

4. Statement Seating and Custom Builds

Seating is, of course, central to any living room—and in 2025, homeowners want theirs to be both functional and striking. Davis notes that while furniture layouts haven’t changed drastically, Baker’s clients are requesting standout centerpieces like custom, multidirectional sofas or built-in banquettes that feel like architectural features.

Design details like scalloped edges are showing up on custom sofas and tables, adding flair without overwhelming the space. Traditional motifs and bold textiles are also gaining ground. “More clients are embracing patterned upholstery, striped or floral fabrics, and bolder choices in curtains and rugs,” Davis explains. “It’s exciting to see people moving away from safe options.”

For a timeless touch, Baker suggests classics like plaid or Buffalo check. “It’s all about creating spaces that feel personal and enduring,” she says. And that’s what great design is all about.
