The Top Kitchen Design Trends of the Year: What’s In, What’s Fresh, and What’s Here to Stay
That’s right—our annual kitchen trend roundup is back, and it continues to be one of our most-read posts each year. As someone who’s had the pleasure of writing these for six years now, it feels both exciting and like a bit of a responsibility.

Before we dive in, a reminder: when it comes to trends—especially for something as permanent as kitchen design—it’s wise to think long term. If you’re not 100% sure you’ll love it for decades, maybe don’t commit just yet. That said, we’ve carefully selected these trends because they either show strong staying power, offer fresh inspiration, or highlight unique design details you may not have considered.

Some of these ideas may involve a remodel, while others can be simple updates to give your kitchen a refresh. Let’s explore what’s making waves in kitchen design this year.

1. Rounded Cabinets
This is the trend I’m most passionate about—so much so that I mentioned it in a post last August. Rounded cabinetry brings a soft, elegant curve to otherwise angular kitchen designs. Done well, it’s versatile and has staying power.
Studio Johnston (Stefania Reynolds): This modern yet playful kitchen is a masterclass in contrast—curved cabinetry against crisp lines, glossy finishes with textured wood, and natural limewash walls. Plus, that oversized sconce? Perfection.

White Studio & Co: This kitchen blends modern and traditional with curved base cabinetry that feels refined and luxurious without being over-the-top.
Bidgood: One of the first examples that caught my eye last year. It combines soft curves with retro charm, enhanced by a pastel palette. Just delightful.

2. Integrated “Stand-Alone” Cupboards
Integrated appliances aren’t new, but designers are now incorporating cabinet-like “cupboards” that feel more like furniture—often disguising fridges.
Nina Farmer Interiors: This kitchen features a gorgeous green larder cupboard that stands out while still blending seamlessly with the rest of the cabinetry.

Vaughan Design & Development: A refrigerator disguised as a sweet, vintage-inspired cupboard that adds so much character to the space.
Sarah Sherman Samuel: She’s done it again with charming “cupboard fridges” and custom beaded fronts from her Semihandmade line. Her work proves you don’t have to sacrifice style for function.

3. Pops of Permanent Color
Usually, I advise caution when it comes to bold, permanent color—but if you love color, this trend is for you.
Monika Micha?owska: Soft green cabinets, herringbone floors, and then—bam!—a bright red accent that takes the kitchen to the next level.

A. Naber Design: A pop of baby blue cabinetry adds subtle energy and timeless appeal.
Curio Interior Design: Brick-red zellige tile on a peninsula creates texture and depth without overwhelming the space.
Rebecca Zajac: Green zellige tile makes this already-beautiful kitchen feel even more inviting and personal.

4. Reeding Accents
Not a brand-new trend, but definitely gaining steam. Reeding adds a tactile layer of interest and works across a variety of styles.
Charlotte Lucas Design: Reeded island detailing in a modern luxe kitchen brings texture and softness.

POCO Designs: Reeded fronts + burgundy marble = a dream design pairing.
Sarah Sherman Samuel: She uses reeding creatively on islands and support columns with gorgeous results.
Sharp + Grey Interiors: Reeded tile is a twist on the trend that’s stylish and fresh.

5. Colorful Window Trim
Yes, I mentioned this back in 2020—but it’s back and better than ever.
Bright Designlab: Colorful window trims and beams tie together a bold yet organic MCM kitchen.

Anna Haines Designs: Contrasting green window trims give height and brightness.
Sophie Rowell: A bright blue trim adds a playful pop, perfectly balanced by whimsical knobs and details.

6. Dark Beige
Move over, white kitchens. Dark beige is stepping into the spotlight as a warmer, cozier neutral.
Tali Roth: This kitchen is chic and timeless, pairing beige cabinetry with silver hardware beautifully.

Meet West Studio: Brass, cement, tile, and marble meet in one stunning tonal masterpiece.
Merete Coleman: A built-in piece inspired by Hungarian marriage armoires, this soft beige beauty is both traditional and on-trend.

7. Fun Stools
No renovation required—just find a counter and let your stools shine!
Shapeless Studio: Burgundy stools bring unexpected color and shape to a modern kitchen.

Charlie Ferrer: Possibly vintage, these stools add richness and history with mixed materials and warm tones.
Nainoa Architecture and Interiors: Custom stools that act as sculptural pieces—practical and beautiful.
Leyden Lewis Design Studio: Pedestal stools complement an open island design with a handmade, organic feel.

8. Colorful Stained Wood
Previously not my thing, but today’s versions are gorgeous—subtle, tonal, and textured.
YSG Studio: Green-stained upper cabinets work beautifully with rich stone counters.

Bidgood: Green-stained wood in a classic style kitchen? It’s stunning.
Bright Designlab: A gentle green stain allows the wood grain to shine through subtly and beautifully.

9. Dark Hardware on Dark Cabinets
Simple, tonal, and effortlessly sophisticated. Expect to see more dark-on-dark hardware—elegant, understated, and chic.

10. Exposed Joinery
Few things say “custom” like visible craftsmanship.
Rubin Studio: The island joinery feels handmade, warm, and refined—equal parts vintage and modern.
Sarah Sherman Samuel: Exposed joinery on upper cabinets gives this space texture and character.

11. “Organic Bauhaus”
A term we coined to describe a growing trend of thick, sculptural wood shelf framing—simple, earthy, geometric.

Beau Geste Interior Design: This space embodies the “Organic Bauhaus” vibe with bold framing and natural textures. It’s minimal but still warm and full of character.
And that’s a wrap!

These trends reflect thoughtful design that feels both current and enduring. Whether you’re planning a full renovation or just need a spark of inspiration, I hope this gave you some ideas to love (or at least ponder). Which one’s your favorite? Let’s talk!
—With love, always.
