Designer Aida Prokofyeva talks about how the interior with unusual accents was created, inspired by the film “Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky.”
The task was to create an original space with the atmosphere of a boutique hotel — these are apartments for rent. The building is located in an elite area, with its own embankment and port.
We created apartments with elegant details in the spirit of Chanel: the concept and graphic accents in the form of dark stripes were inspired by the film Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky — I couldn’t resist a very simple yet very striking technique with black moldings.
We didn’t make the kitchen very large — it has only the essentials. However, thanks to the U-shaped design of the kitchen units, we were able to zone the space, separating the dining area from the cooking zone.
The living room is decorated with a bright Ted Baker rug — you could say it captures the entire color palette of the interior. It is complemented by an unusual wave-shaped armchair in a deep fuchsia shade. These expressive details break up the abundance of strict straight lines — such a contrast gives the interior a special character. I would call it postmodernism with elements of French chic!
Initially, this was a single space, but we decided to divide it into two rooms. Part of the partition between the bedroom and the living room was decorated with glass blocks — they add a special lightness. Moreover, thanks to them, more light enters the apartment — this is especially important considering that the rooms turned out to be quite elongated.
Due to the rectangular shape of the bedroom, we decided not to install a wardrobe — instead, we created a separate walk-in closet, hanging curtains at the entrance so as not to weigh down the space.
