Interior of the Month: Designer Lina Knyazeva’s Apartment
In a small space, every inch is especially valuable, so I didn’t want to clutter it with solid partitions or doors. Moreover, I wanted the ability to combine areas, allowing me to watch shows either on a projector, sitting on the sofa, or lying on the bed—walls would have interfered with that, and for me, that is very important. So, for zoning, I decided to use heavy curtains. They divide the bedroom and living room, as well as the wardrobe near the entrance.
The idea for the unusual orange bean-shaped sofa came to me almost immediately while working on the layout. The thing is, a standard sofa wouldn’t fit nicely into such a small space. Since I have a rounded wall in my apartment, I wanted to harmonize it with the shape of the sofa. I designed it myself — it can be purchased by clients for similarly small apartments. By the way, the round rug also helped to zone the small living room space and made it softer and cozier.
I wasn’t afraid to use bright colors, as the base of the space turned out to be light beige. I can only live in light interiors — only in them do I feel that I can breathe freely.”
The idea of open shelves in the kitchen had been on my mind for a while. I love looking at similar photos on Pinterest, and I really wanted something like that in my kitchen. I’m not a fan of fully solid kitchen facades. Many people have doubts about the practicality and beauty of open shelves, but for me, it’s not like that: everything you need is visible.
Despite the small size of 33 m?, I managed to fit a lot of storage — it’s enough for two people. The mirrored door at the entrance, on both sides, is another feature of the interior. It visually enlarges the space, which is much needed in studio apartments. Plus, it’s very convenient to check your reflection from different zones of the apartment.
I’m proud that I managed not to overload the interior, and that it turned out exactly like the 3D visualization, which I worked on in a fairly short period.
In the bathroom, I wanted shades much darker than in the rest of the apartment. I aimed for a semi-dark atmosphere, and I achieved this with a dense gray-beige shade on the walls, as well as lighting on the ceiling and around the mirror. I used a curtain to cover the space with the washing and drying machines. It’s not a new idea, but for some reason, it’s not often used in interiors, even though it’s simple and beautiful. The orange color in the textiles and accessories was used intentionally — it’s a match to the sofa in the living room.
