How to Make Your Country House Stylish: Furniture Design Trends in 2025
Trends in Furniture You Should Know About if You’re Planning to Update Your Summer Cottage Interior This Year
Modern trends in suburban furniture design are focused on creating eco-friendly and functional spaces. We’ll cover the most relevant trends for 2025 and ways to integrate them into your country house interior.
Natural Elements
The use of eco-friendly and natural materials such as wood, rattan, bamboo, and linen is the key trend in furniture design for country houses, say designers. Interior designer and founder of the Grande Familia studio (iRoomproject), Inna Kaminskaya, recommends incorporating wooden tables and chairs, woven chairs, and rattan sofas. She also suggests complementing them with textiles made from natural fabrics like linen or cotton to create a cozy and natural atmosphere.
“Furniture in natural colors and wood, with simple, soft shapes, is the hallmark of eco-minimalism. And as a contrast — ornate shapes. Retro furniture that was used by our great-grandmothers but restored and updated. The most interesting and fashionable look now is a combination of these two formats, always with elements of handmade and natural decor,” noted designer Ekaterina Romanova from Rerooms.
Bright Colors
This season, there’s been a shift in how furniture colors are perceived. “Spaces done in a single color scheme have become a bit boring. Bright colors are encouraged. There is no specific trend just for blue or orange. Unconventional combinations are now appearing, such as orange and pink or turquoise and green, which would have previously been considered bad taste,” explained Anna Dobrokovskaya, founder and leader of the “Dobrokovskys Workshop.”
In 2025, bright cushions, rugs, and curtains are a must-have in the country interior—they bring life to the space, making each day at the cottage special, emphasized Kaminskaya. These colors bring energy and inspiration, filling the home with life and positivity, so don’t overlook them.
Ergonomics and Form Mixing
Transformer tables, as well as sofas and chairs with built-in storage drawers, are in trend—these create a sense of order and harmony, making the interior ergonomic, says Kaminskaya. According to her, transformers help save space and fill the area with light and air.
“The shape of furniture, whether inside the home or in outdoor spaces, plays a significant role. This year, we’re seeing an interesting mix of shapes. Simple linear or rounded forms no longer impress. Designers are creating complex solutions with woven furniture or unique ergonomic chairs, and tabletops are becoming a mix of clear geometric lines and organic forms. The more complex, the more interesting,” said Dobrokovskaya.
Retro and Vintage
Vintage elements are currently in trend, adding soul and history to your interior, say designers. “Antique dressers, chairs, and tables found at flea markets or antique stores create a cozy, warm atmosphere. These items tell their stories, and you feel how your home fills with a special charm and uniqueness,” noted Kaminskaya.
For decorating a country house, both inside and outside, old carvings from window frames, wrought iron and slightly rusty elements and decorations, subtle or vintage lanterns are perfect, added Ekaterina Romanova, a designer at Rerooms.
Scale
In 2025, when arranging your country house, designers recommend opting for larger sofas and tables, especially garden furniture.
“The trend of spending time outdoors together is not new. While the focus used to be on relaxation and lounging, now it is shifting towards uniting and scaling up. The desire to spend more time with loved ones is also reflected in design. A large table for a big group of people is now seen as the norm,” concluded Anna Dobrokovskaya.
